What is Single Sign On (SSO)

 Single Sign-On (SSO) is a way for users to access multiple applications with a single set of login credentials. Instead of having to remember separate usernames and passwords for each application, users can authenticate once and gain access to all the applications they need.

Global Academy uses SSO for all students and staff to simplify the login process for our users. Here's what you need to know:

How does SSO work?

When you access an application that uses SSO, you'll be redirected to login with your Microsoft Account. There, you'll enter your username and password (usually firstname.lastname@globalacademy.com), and the SSO server will authenticate your credentials. Once you're authenticated, the SSO server will send a token to the application you're trying to access. This token verifies that you've been authenticated and allows you to access the application without having to enter your credentials again.

What are the benefits of SSO?

Using SSO has several benefits:

1. Simplified login process: With SSO, you only need to remember one set of login credentials.
2. Increased security: SSO helps reduce the risk of password-related security breaches, since users aren't required to remember multiple passwords.
3. Centralized authentication: SSO provides a centralized authentication system, which makes it easier for IT administrators to manage user accounts and access permissions.

How do I access applications using SSO?

To access an application using SSO, simply click on login (this may say sign in with Microsoft) on the application page or via the useful links tab on the academy's website. This will redirect you to our SSO server, where you'll enter your username and password. Once you're authenticated, you'll be redirected back to the application you were trying to access, and you'll be logged in automatically.

What if I forget my SSO password?

Your SSO password is your local user account password and the one you use to log into your emails, as usual if you forget this you'll need to contact support to reset it. We recommend that you choose a strong, unique password for your SSO account to ensure the security of your credentials.
